Safeguarding Of Industries
Mr. E. BROWN
asked the President of the Board of Trade how many applications have been received since January, 1926, for inquiries to be held under the Safeguarding of Industries Act in connection with British goods; how many orders have been made following upon such inquiries; the nature of the orders; and the extent of the duty or tariff imposed upon the imports of such goods?
Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER
Since January, 1926, four applications have been referred to committees, for inquiries to be held in accordance with the White Paper on Safeguarding of Industries. One of these applications related to certain articles of pottery, and the Finance Bill makes provision for an import duty of 28 shillings a hundredweight on certain tableware of translucent or vitrified pottery.
