asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the number of men unemployed in the cement-making industry in Kent, he will make it a condition of all housing grants that all cement used in connection with housing schemes should be of British origin?

In view of the terms of Section 10 (1) of the Housing (Fin-ancial Provisions) Act, 1924, legislation would be required for this purpose, and I do not think that the introduction of such legislation would be practicable at the present time. My hon. Friend is no doubt aware that local authorities have been urged to make use of goods and materials of home production or manufacture to the utmost extent practicable, and I have at present no reason to believe that they are not adopting this course.

asked the Minister of Health what reply has been sent to the application received from the Manchester City Council to build 2,500 houses; whether the Ministry is making any stipulation as to the type of house for which subsidies under the Housing Acts will be given; and the number of houses that have been built by the Manchester Corporation with two bedrooms and three bedrooms under the various Housing Acts?

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave on the 19th instant to my friend the hon. Member for Hulme (Sir J. Nall) on this subject. With regard to the last part of the question, the number of two-bedroom houses built or under construction by the Corporation is 2,133, and the number of three-bedroom houses is 13,482.

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will publish a schedule of goods to be taxed under the Abnormal Importations Bill, with the respective rates of duty, before the House rises for the Christmas recess?

I hope to make at an early date an Order under the powers which are now being sought from Parliament. Any Orders made will, of course, be published without delay.

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will give a detailed monthly summary of agricultural products imported during the current year?

I will send my hon. and gallant Friend a statement giving the information he requires. I would, however, draw his attention to the monthly articles on the imports of agricultural produce published in the Agricultural Market Report, which is prepared by my Department. I am sending him a copy of the issue of 20th November for his information.

asked the Home Secretary whether he will consider the desirability of introducing legislation enabling His Majesty's judges to inflict sentences of corporal punishment upon persons found guilty of aggravated cruelty to children and animals.

I do not propose to introduce legislation to extend the power of passing sentences of corporal punishment.
