Taxation (Statistics)
Mr. PETHERICK
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can give the taxation per head in this country in a full year under the proposals contained in the Finance Bill; and the latest available figures of taxation in France, Germany, Italy, and the United States of America?
Major ELLIOT
The estimated taxation per head is as follows:
| United Kingdom (1932–3) | £15 18s. |
| United States (1931–2) | $16.81* |
| France (1931–2) | Frs.1176† |
| Germany (1931–2) | Rms.143.45‡ |
| Italy (1931–2) | Lire 414 |
| * Federal Taxation only. The increased taxes now under consideration by Congress would make the estimated taxation for 1932–3 $21.50 per head. | |
| † Actual Receipts (including those for the Autonomous Sinking Fund) for the year ended 31st March, 1932. Gross receipts of monopolies are included. | |
| ‡ Federal Taxation only. | |
