66,434 houses were built by local authorities and 2,656 by private enterprise with State assistance during the year ended 30th September, 1932, in England and Wales. Statistics as to houses provided without State assistance for the full 12 months are not yet available, but during the six months ended 31st March, 1932, 69,740 houses were erected without State assistance, of which 1,366 were erected by local authorities.

asked the Minister of Health the total number of persons in receipt of outdoor relief and of indoor relief on 1st October, 1932, and on 1st October, 1931?

The numbers of persons (men, women and children) in receipt of outdoor relief and of indoor relief in England and Wales (excluding rate-aided patients in mental hospitals, persons in receipt of domiciliary medical relief only and casual) on Saturday, 1st October, 1932, were 1,033,084 and 190,019 respectively. The corresponding figures for Saturday, 3rd October, 1931, were 784,022 and 193,303.
