The total amounts of insurance benefit and transitional payments paid through employment exchanges in the Wales division during 1933 were:—

The figures are exclusive of administrative expenses, and further, do not include payments made through associations, for which separate figures are not available. It is estimated that the contributions of employers and employed persons in the same division during 1933 amounted to about £1,450,000.

asked the Minister of Labour the number of persons registered as unemployed on the Stroud Employment Exchange on the last day of August, 1931, and also on the last available date in 1934?

The numbers of unemployed persons on the registers of the Stroud Employment Exchange at 31st August, 1931, and 18th December, 1933, were as follow:decision to withdraw from Motor Coaches, Limited, the travel facilities they had offered the public for 14 years, for the benefit of two large rail-associated companies, the East Kent Road Car Company, Limited, and the Maidstone and District Motor Services, Limited; and whether he is aware that that decision forces Motor Coaches, Limited, to go out of business, whereas the other two companies have been able to pay good dividends since their formation?

I presume that my hon. and gallant Friend refers to a condition attached by the Traffic Commissioners for the South Eastern Area to a licence granted to the M.T. Company for a service between London and Thanet to the effect that passengers should not be picked up or set down between Swanley and Birchington. The M.T. Company appealed to me against that decision, but after careful consideration of all the relevant facts and circumstances, including the proceedings at an inquiry which I caused to be held into the matter, I reached the conclusion that I should not be justified in over-riding the Commissioners' decision. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of the letter conveying that decision.
