Electrical Goods (Imports)

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that electric lamps, and other electric goods, are being imported into this country from Japan at a price which makes it impossible for British firms to compete in the home market; and whether, in view of the serious position in which British manufacturers are likely to find themselves as a result of this foreign competition, he will take urgent steps to protect British manufacturers?

Separate consideration is being given to the question of imports of electric lamps from Japan, but any question of an increase in the rate of import duty on other electrical goods subject to duty under the Import Duties Act is a matter, in the first place, for the Import Duties Advisory Committee.
