Egypt (Ibrashi Pasha)

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether his attention has been called to an announcement issued by the Egyptian Minister in this country that Ibrashi Pasha has nothing whatever to do with State affairs; and whether His Majesty's Government has asked or will ask the Egyptian Prime Minister whether the Egyptian Government approves or otherwise of that announcement, in order to establish the facts with regard to the action of the High Commissioner in supporting the punishment of Ibrashi Pasha?

I presume that the hon. Member is referring to a letter from the Egyptian Minister published in a London newspaper on 11th April. I see no reason to make any inquiry of the Egyptian Prime Minister.

Milk Marketing Scheme

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many demands supported by the requisite number of 500 registered producers have been received for a poll on the question of whether the milk marketing scheme shall be revoked?

I am informed by the Milk Marketing Board that one demand from the requisite number of producers has been received by the Board for a poll on the question of the revocation of the scheme.

Cost-Of-Living Index Figure (Coal)

asked the Minister of Labour the index figure for coal in the latest cost-of-living figures for 1931; and the latest date for which figures are available?

According to the information collected for the purpose of the official index-number relating to changes in working-class cost of living, retail prices of coal at 1st May, 1935, showed an average increase of 75 to 80 per cent. over the level of July, 1914, as compared with an average increase of 80 to 85 per cent. at 1st May, 1931.
