Unemployment

Southwark

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will state the number of unemployed men, women, and juveniles in the Borough of Southwark as at the last convenient date?

Numbers of insured persons, aged 16 to 64, recorded as unemployed in September and October, 1935, in the principal industries in Leicester, and those numbers expressed as percentages of the estimated numbers insured at July, 1935.

Post Office Savings Bank

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will give, to the latest available date, the number of depositors in the Post Office Savings Bank, together with the total amount of their deposits with accrued interest?

The number of depositors in the Post Office Savings Bank on the 30th of November, 1935, was approximately 9,750,000, and the total amount of their deposits with accrued interest was approximately £388,500,000.

The numbers of unemployed persons, resident in the Metropolitan Borough of Southwark, on the registers of Employment Exchanges at 21st October, 1935, were 5,658 men and 1,456 women, aged 18 years and over, and 53 juveniles, under 18 years of age.

Leicester

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will indicate the course of employment in the city of Leicester by industries, numbers, and percentages, respectively, for the months of September and October, 1935, or the two other latest convenient months, respectively?

The available figures relate to the area served by the Leicester Employment Exchange and Juvenile Employment Bureau. The following table gives the information desired for this area:

Italy And Abyssinia (Aden)

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he will state the amount of water that has been supplied to the Italian forces in Italian Somaliland during the last two months from Aden?

No water was exported from Aden to the Italian Colonies between 1st October and 15th November, the latest date for which I have information.
