Scotland

Economic Advisory Committee

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will give the names of the staff of the Scottish Economic Advisory Committee, stating in each case the duties performed and the salary received?

I understand that the staff of the Economic Committee, which is a Committee of the Scottish Development Council, consists of a Secretary General, three administrative assistants, and six shorthand-typists, who are also engaged on general clerical duties. The annual expenditure on salaries is upwards of £3,000.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will give particulars of the office accommodation at the disposal of the Scottish Economic Advisory Committee, setting out the number of rooms available for the use of the committee and its staff?

I am informed that in the offices of the committee at 19, Blythswood Square, Glasgow, six rooms are available for the use of the committee and its staff.

Lunacy (Statistics)

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will state the number of persons detained in mental institutions in Scotland as certified lunatics on 31st December of each of the years 1930 to 1936; the number of such persons received into such institutions in each of those years; the number of such persons discharged each year, respectively; of the persons so received and so discharged the number of those who had been married each year, respectively; and of the persons, married and unmarried, respectively, so discharged each year how many had been detained for less than three years, for three years and less than five years, for five years and less than 10 years, for 10 years and less than 15 years, and for over 15 years, respectively?

Ecclesiastical Commission (Licensed Houses)

asked the hon. Member for Central Leeds, as representing the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, whether he will state the number of licensed houses of any description that are on the property of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, and the total amount of rental they receive in respect of same?

There are 279 licensed houses on the Ecclesiastical Commissioners' estates and the total annual rental from these is about £20,500.

Transport (Accidents, Brighton Road)

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to the increasing number of accidents on the main Brighton road between Star Inn and Church Lane, Hooley; and whether he will reconsider his decision not to impose a 30-mile speed limit between these points?
