Land Acquisition
Wetherby
asked the Minister of Health whether the Wetherby Parish Council has been successful, and at what price, in acquiring for burial ground an area of 1¾ acres at Hallfield from the Gunther trustees; whether he is aware that the owners had been asking £600 for this land, besides which the council would have had to build a 10-feet wall and would have been involved in drainage costs of about £400; and if he can say what was the rateable value of this land when last occupied?
I understand that no decision has been reached by the local authority regarding the acquisition of this land. I have no information as to its rateable value when last occupied.
Croydon
asked the Minister of Health, whether he has given consent to the Croydon Town Council to borrow money for purchasing as an open space the Beaulieu estate, situate between Beulah Hill and Auckland Road, Upper Norwood; whether the Ecclesiastical Commissioners are the vendors; and whether he can state the area of the land in question, the price paid or agreed upon, and the rateable value of the land previous to purchase?
Consent has been given to a loan for the purchase of the estate from the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for the benefit, improvement or development of the county borough. The area of the land is approximately 21⅓ acres, the price paid was £10,000, and the previous rateable value was £234.
