Waste Petroleum
asked the Secretary for Petroleum whether he will consider amending the Petroleum Order, 1941, Statutory Rules and Order, No. 546, in such a way that he is authorised to give directions also in respect of the further use of any waste petroleum, within the meaning of the Petroleum Order, 1941, to secure the best possible use of any such waste petroleum and immediately to issue directions under such Amended Petroleum Order, 1941, to prohibit the use of waste petroleum by burning so long as by refining same can be used for its original purpose?
The object which the hon. Member wishes to secure can be and is being substantially secured without a compulsory order.
Tax Office, Eccles
asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings whether, in relation to the rehousing of the 17th Manchester tax district and the unsatisfactory nature of the proposals for accommodating it in Ellesmere Road, Eccles, he is aware that the addresses of six sets of alternative offices have been supplied to the Board of Inland Revenue; and whether, in these circumstances, he will agree not to carry out the Ellesmere Road scheme until detailed inspections of the said offices have been made?
Yes, Sir. The premises have been considered but none of them provides a suitable alternative to the scheme proposed, which must now be put in hand.
Coal Stocks, Liverpool
asked the Secretary for Mines what stocks of coal are now held in reserve in the city of Liverpool; and how these stocks compare with the estimated requirements?
It would be contrary to public interest to give details of stocks of coal held in Liverpool, but I would like to state that with the exercise of due economy the position regarding both stocks and supply is reasonably satisfactory.
