Clothing Coupons (Royal Wedding)
asked the President of the Board of Trade what special allowance of coupons has been made for the forthcoming Royal Wedding; and whether coupons will be issued to enable Her Royal Highness the Princess Elizabeth to follow the traditional practice of accepting wedding gifts representative of British industry.
Yes, Sir. One hundred coupons have been issued to Princess Elizabeth for her wedding, and the bridesmaids and pages have been allocated respectively 23 and 10 coupons each. As regards the second part of the Question, Her Royal Highness has asked that these gifts should be limited in size in keeping with the present difficult times and my Department has undertaken to issue the necessary coupons and licences to enable them to be accepted.
Glanllyn Estate, Merioneth (Purchase)
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he expects the Treasury to be able to complete the purchase of the Glanllyn Estate. Llanuchwllyn, Merioneth.
A draft contract has now been received from the vendors and is being examined. When this contract has been settled, a conveyance will be required to complete the purchase. I am very anxious to hasten completion.
