Post Office Savings Accounts
asked the Postmaster-General why an account may not be opened with the Post Office Savings Bank without the production of an identity card or ration book.
The production of an identity card is required at the post office in order to help prevent the opening of Savings Bank accounts for purposes of fraud. It is a simple and expeditious way of requiring the applicant to establish his bona fides. A ration book is not acceptable for this purpose.
African Territories (Women Teachers)
asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many qualified African women teachers are employed in schools of all types in each of the East and Central African territories; and what is the ratio between girl and boy students at the schools in question.
pursuant to Mr. COOK'S reply of 28th June, 1950 [OFFICIAL REPORT, Vol. 476; c. 2272], gave the following information:The numbers of qualified African women teachers employed in schools of all types are: Kenya, 407; Northern Rhodesia, 225; Nyasaland, 212; Tanganyika, 581; Uganda, 1,026; Zanzibar, 46.The ratio of boy to girl students in schools of all types is:
