Foundry Pig Iron (Production)
asked the Minister of Supply what has been the production of foundry pig iron for the 12 months ended October, 1950.
1,479,965 tons of foundry pig iron were produced in the United Kingdom during the 12 months ended October, 1950.
Tuberculosis (Beds)
asked the Minister of Health what is the number of beds reserved for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis in sanatoria, general hospitals and fever hospitals, respectively, which are now empty because of shortage of nursing and domestic staff.

The number of tuberculosis beds provided in institutions classed as sanatoria and tuberculosis hospitals is about 27,700, of which about 4,400 are unstaffed. There are some 3,500 staffed tuberculosis beds in other hospitals. Of the 31,200 staffed beds approximately 27,200 are for pulmonary and 4,000 for non-pulmonary tuberculosis.
Agricultural Executive Committee, Cheshire
asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of persons employed by his Department at Berkeley Towers, Crewe; what area is covered by this staff; how many farms there are in the area; and how many inspections of farms have taken place in the last 12 months.
The Cheshire Agricultural Executive Committee employ a staff of 209, of whom 130 are stationed at Berkeley Towers, Crewe. The County of Chester has 9,923 farms of over one acre, comprising 475,952 acres under crops and grass; 2,611 farms have been inspected during the past 12 months in addition to visits paid to farms for advisory and other purposes.
Green And St James's Parks (Keepers)
asked the Minister of Works how many of the park attendants in the Green Park and St. James's Park are full and part-time employees, respectively; and how far their conditions of employment permit day workers to take additional employment as night workers for other employers.
There are 25 park-keepers in the Green Park and St. James's Park, all of whom are employed full-time. Permission to undertake work for other employers outside normal working hours may be granted, provided that my Department is satisfied that the outside occupation will not conflict with the interests of the Ministry, or be inconsistent with the officer's position as a public servant. No application for such permission has been made.
