New Schools, Lanarkshire (Postponed Building)

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the estimated value of the 10 schools in Lanarkshire and Glasgow, the starting on which is at present delayed by steel shortages.

Milk (Retailers' Margins)

asked the Minister of Food by how much per annum the Milk (Control and Maximum Prices) (Great Britain) (Amendment No. 4) Order, 1952, increases the margins of milk retailers.

The effect of the Milk (Control and Maximum Prices) (Great Britain) (Amendment No. 4) Order, 1952, was to increase milk retailers margins in England and Wales by about £1½ million a year to meet increased costs.

Universities (Degrees)

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many individuals have graduated from the main universities in the United Kingdom since 1932; and how many of these took first and second-class honours, respectively.

The number of degrees obtained by internal students of university institutions in Great Britain during the academic years 1931–32 to 1938–39 and 1945–46 to 1951–52 was:

Honours Degrees106,369
Ordinary Degrees76,770
Total183,139
I regret that figures for degrees obtained during the war, and separate figures for first and second-class honours, are not available.

Car Parking, London (Pont Street)

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will issue an order to make the portion of Pont Street, east of Sloane Square, a "No Waiting" street in order to lessen the traffic congestion which often arises in this street from vehicles being parked for long periods on both sides of the street.

I do not think that a "No Waiting" order would be appropriate here, but when the experiment in unilateral waiting in some other London streets has been tried, I will consider whether it could usefully be extended to this length of Pont Street.

Uganda (Bugishu Coffee Board)

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the relationship between the Bugishu Coffee Board and the Uganda Coffee Industry Board; how far the Bugishu Coffee Board markets the coffee independently of the Coffee Industry Board; and what contribution the Bugishu Coffee Board makes to the Coffee Price Assistance Fund.

The Uganda Coffee Industry Board has not yet been established. I do not know how much the Bugishu Coffee Board contributes to the Coffee Price Assistance Fund, but I am consulting the Governor and will write to the hon. Member.

Agriculture (Feedingstuffs Discussions)

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he is now in a position to make a statement on the review of the feedingstuffs allocation system.

I am unable to add to the reply given by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary to the hon. Member for Sunderland, North (Mr. Willey) on 3rd December.
