Agricultural Land (Use)
asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will arrange to have an independent person, who is not committed by any previous Departmental decision, to act as assessor when it is proposed to requisition good agricultural land for whatever purpose.
I have considered this suggestion and many others for improving the machinery for dealing with cases involving the loss of agricultural land. So far none has come to light which would be more effective than the present safeguards against the diversion of land from agriculture.
Local Government
Sewage Disposal, Shrewton
asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government when the result of the inquiry into the position of the disposal of sewage effluent from the village of Shrewton, Wiltshire, will be known; and if he is aware of the need for adequate steps to be taken to deal with this problem.
My decision will be communicated to the interested parties within the next few days. The answer to the second part of the Question is "Yes."
Bucklersbury House, London
asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will make a further statement regarding the Bucklersbury House, London, building scheme.
Yes. As I undertook to do, I have made further inquiries with regard to the position of the Royal Fine Art Commission. I understand from the Chairman that the Commission are issuing a statement to make their position clear. I have also taken steps to get into touch with the City Corporation and the London County Council.
