National Finance

United Nations Agencies (United Kingdom Contributions)

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to give details of the grants made by Her Majesty's Government during the last complete year to the various agencies associated with the United Nations Organisation.

The following table shows the United Kingdom's contributions to the United Nations Organisation and its various agencies for the calendar year 1955:

£ Sterling (Purchasing Power)

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will bring up to date the table published on 19th November, 1954, showing how the internal purchasing value of the £ sterling has varied month by month, taking the value in October, 1951, as 20 shillings.

Taking the internal purchasing power of the £ as 20s. in October, 1951, the corresponding figures for the months since October, 1954, based on the Interim Index of Retail Prices, are as follows:

Post-War Credits

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the cost of paying post-war credits to those people who are blind.

Independent Television Authority

Sponsered Programmes

asked the Postmaster-General what reply he has given to the requests made to him by advertising organisations for the introduction of legislation to permit of sponsored programmes under the control of the Independent Television Authority; and if he will restate Government policy on this matter.

No such requests have been received. Government policy remains as expressed in the Television Act.
