Commonwealth Relations
Chinese Peoples' Government (Recognition)
Captain Kerby
asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations if he will name those member States of the British Commonwealth who recognise the Chinese Peoples' Government, on the one hand, and the Chinese Nationalist Government in Taiwan, on the other, as the legitimate Government of China.
Mr. Alport
Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom have of course recognised the Chinese Peoples' Government. Questions concerning the recognition of foreign Governments by the Governments of other independent Commonwealth countries do not fall within the sphere of the responsibilities of Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom and it would consequently not be appropriate for me to make a statement.
