Coal Stocks
asked the Paymaster-General if he will give the latest figure of accumulated stocks of coal, showing to what extent these are industrial and domestic types of coal.
Stocks of coal at collieries and at opencast sites on 11th October amounted to 16·5 million tons of which under five per cent. is suitable for domestic purposes.
Local Government
Loan Sanctions
asked the Minister of Housing. and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs, in respect of each of the years 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956 and 1957, the names of those local authorities who have applied to him for borrowing consent for the purposes set out in Section 132 of the Local Government Act, 1948; the amount of loan sanction requested in each case; and the extent to which such applications were approved by him.
No record is kept of applications for loan sanction which for one reason or another do not proceed.The following loans were sanctioned for the purposes of Section 132 in the years in question:
