We are seeking the advice of the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee on a proposal, the details of which have just been received from the local authority.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that there is still much anxiety among parents on the Abbey Estate, Wembley, about the safety of their children when going to and from school owing to the volume of traffic using Carlyon Road; and if he will reassure them as far as possible by installing a crossing patrol.

I am in consultation with the Commissioner of Police, who is the school crossing patrol authority for the Metropolitan Police District. He is making inquiries, and I shall write to my hon. Friend as soon as possible.

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what improvements he has been able to effect at Whitebirk Power Station, in order to overcome nuisance to neighbouring property by fumes, grit and dust.

Investigations are now being made into sources of dust in the locality. When the results are available, the district alkali inspector will consider whether further measures are needed at the power station to reduce dust emission. Investigations are also proceeding into the possibility of limiting the extent of the chimney plume.

asked the Minister of Defence to what extent a decision to make Thor missiles ready for operation at 15 minutes' notice is authorised to be taken by United Kingdom military commanders without prior instructions from the British and United States Governments.

The hon. Member's Question seems to be based on a misunderstanding. The matters requiring a joint decision by the British and American Governments have been explained to the House on a number of occasions in answers to Questions and in the course of debates. I do not think there is anything I can usefully add to these earlier statements.
