Agriculture, Fisheries And Food

Safety Regulations

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what further efforts he will make to encourage farmers to become more safety-conscious.

We intend to supplement our recent intensive efforts in two ways. All farmers will shortly receive from us a booklet which sets out all the current safety regulations in convenient form. Also we have introduced a new safety symbol which, I hope, will be widely used and serve as a constant visual reminder of the need to prevent accidents on farms. It will appear on the guards of machines to be displayed at the Smithfield Show and at many future agricultural shows and demonstrations. We are, of course, continually looking for new ways of reducing these accidents and I hope these two latest efforts will make a valuable contribution.
