The Government are not aware that any subsidies are being granted by the Irish Government specifically for Irish cheese producers. Consequently no discussions have been held with the Commission or the Council of the European Communities. My right honourable friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is of course perfectly prepared to examine any information on this subject that the noble Lord may care to make available to him.
