"The War Game"

asked Her Majesty's Government:Whether they will support the overwhelming majority of the members of the general advisory council of the BBC in urging the governors to show the film,

The War Game.

The BBC is responsible for the content of the programmes it broadcasts and it would be contrary to the practice, endorsed by successive Governments, for Ministers to seek to influence the corporation's decisions.

Trooping The Colour Shooting Incident: Arrest

asked Her Majesty's Government:Whether they will give the names of the 18 year-old American tourist and of the member of the Special Constabulary reported in the press as being the first to grab the man who had fired blank cartridges at Her Majesty the Queen; and whether they will say which of the two ranks as the person effecting the arrest for this arrestable offence.

Information Transfer: Authorisation

asked Her Majesty's Government:(1) What authorisations have been given since June 1978 for the transfer of personal information held by one Government department for one purpose to another Government department, or any other third party, for another purpose; and(2) Where such authorisations have been given otherwise than in accordance with a statutory power, who has given them, by what authority, and according to what criteria.

There is no centrally maintained record of transfers of such information by Government departments; these are matters for the individual departmental Ministers concerned. The Government's general approach to the handling of personal information was set out in the statement in another place on 19th March by my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department. (Vol. 1, cols. 161–162).House adjourned at twenty-five minutes before ten o'clock.
