Voluntary Organisations: Transitional Funding
asked Her Majesty's Government:Which voluntary organisations will benefit from the increased transitional funding announced during the Committee stage of the Local Government Bill in the House of Lords; and how this funding will be allocated.
We will make proposals in a draft consultation paper shortly.
The London Trust: Administration
asked Her Majesty's Government:To explain what arrangements they are making to consult the voluntary sector on the implementation of the proposal for a charitable trust for London announced during the Committee stage of the Local Government Bill in the House of Lords; and how the new Charitable Trust Fund will be administered.
We propose to have discussions with representatives of the voluntary and chantable interests concerned. We intend that the new trust for London should be administered by an existing charitable organisation.
The London Trust: Funding
asked Her Majesty's Government:What steps they are taking to ensure that the charitable trust for London announced during the Committee stage of the Local Government Bill in the House of Lords does not replace existing sources of funding nor anything provided for in Clause 47 of the Bill.
We intend that the new London Trust should provide additional funds by drawing on new sources—the assets of the Greater London Council and private and corporate contributions. Generous transitional finance and strengthened administrative arrangements have been proposed to encourage the maintenance of funding from existing source.
Loss Of The "Marques": Public Inquiry
asked Her Majesty's Government:When the public inquiry into the loss of the British Barque "Marques" in the Tall Ships Race in 1984 will commence, and what are the reasons for the delay in getting the inquiry under way.
The decision to hold a public formal investigation into this loss was taken in April. Arrangements for the hearing are being made as expeditiously as practicable, but a number of factors, such as the selection and appointment by the Lord Chancellor of a senior member of the Admiralty Bar as Wreck Commissioner and the need for the parties to have time to prepare their cases, inevitably affect the date when the hearing can commence.
