Since 1979 six persons convicted of rape as their principal offence, and given a determinate sentence, were recalled from parole having been alleged to have committed a further principal offence of rape while on parole. The subsequent conviction of one of these was in 1980, of two in 1981, two in 1982, and one in 1983. To provide comprehensive information on subsequent offences of rape which were not the principal offence would involve disproportionate cost but in addition one case is known with a further principal offence of murder together with an offence of rape.

asked Her Majesty's Government:Whether, when considering applications for community radio licences, they will take into account any infringements of the Wireless Telegraphy Acts in which the applicants may have been involved.

My right honourable friend will consider applications for the experimental community radio licences on the basis of their individual merits, in the light of advice from the advisory panel on conmmunity radio. He will take into account all considerations that are relevant to applicants' ability to provide a service which reflects the interests of the community concerned, bearing in mind the aim of the experiment of testing the viability of and scope for a range of different types of community radio set up and financed in different ways. Previous involvement in unlicensed broadcasting will of itself be regarded neither as a bar to nor a qualification for a licence.

I regret that the information requested is not currently available. However some of the information is being gathered in studies in England and Wales which have been commissioned jointly by the Manpower Services Commission, the Department of Employment and the Department of Education and Science. Among the topics to be covered, the studies will seek information on the activities prior to entry in the youth training scheme of representative national samples of young people reaching minimum school-leaving age during the 1983–84 academic year. A similar separate study is being carried out in Scotland. Preliminary results, covering the experience of this cohort up to the spring of 1985, are expected to become available early in 1986.

The work done by women and men other than in the course of paid or self-employment has a very important role in our economy and society, but unfortunately it is not possible to value it in the same terms as those used to calculate the gross domestic product. This is because the national accounts are expressed in money terms, and confined to those goods and services which are exchanged for money, or whose monetary values can easily be imputed. Any attempt to impute the value of unpaid work would necessarily be highly arbitrary.

No. The limit was increased by £500 to £8,000 with effect from 1st April 1985. We do not consider that a further increase is justified at the present time.
