Computer Devices

Volume 479: debated on Monday 14 July 2008

To ask the hon. Member for North Devon, representing the House of Commons Commission what estimate the Commission has made of (a) the number of computer devices left on overnight in the House when not in use and (b) the cost of leaving computer devices on overnight when not in use in each of the last five years; and if he will make a statement. (217877)

We do not keep statistics on computer devices left on overnight in the House. However, the new online induction course to the parliamentary network, which all new users (Members, their staff and staff of the House) must complete, includes guidance on shutting down personal computers each day. In addition to this, all computers have Microsoft power saving settings enabled; these also reduce energy consumption.
