NHS: Data Protection

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps he has taken, or intends to take, to ensure that incomplete or invalidated data returns from NHS bodies shared across Government for internal purposes are not used publicly. (246687)

The Government attach the highest importance to Departments maintaining the integrity of official statistics and to upholding the rules relating to their publication.

The Cabinet Secretary is working with the Permanent Secretaries of the Departments concerned, including my own, to understand what happened in the case of last month’s release of statistics on knife crime. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.
