Volume 486: debated on Tuesday 13 January 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many (a) crime scene and (b) police officer DNA profiles have been removed from the national DNA database in each month of the last five years; and if she will make a statement. (240864)

The number of crime scene DNA profiles removed from the National DNA Database (NDNAD) for police forces in England and Wales in each month of the last five years is given in Table 1.

The DNA profiles of police officers and staff taken for contamination elimination purposes are not held on the NDNAD, but on the Police Elimination Database (PED), which is entirely separate from the NDNAD. The number of police officer and staff DNA profiles that have been removed from the PED in each month of the last five years is given in Table 2.

(240924)

I refer the hon. Member to the answer given on 17 December 2008, Official Report, column 859W, to the hon. Member for Cardiff, Central (Jenny Willott).
